More SZA More SZA

With merely a day to go before the SZA SOS Tour kicks off in Auckland, the soulful sensation has finally revealed who her support act will be. Fans, be prepared to groove to Californian R&B curator SiR

While SZA has been popular in the Australian markets for some time for her Grammy-nominated debut album CTRL (the album practically made every music magazine’s top album list for 2017), it was really her sophomore album SOS that lifted the artist from alternative R&B listeners to the mainstream public.

TikTok leeched to the main track, Kill Bill, while tracks Seek & Destroy and Snooze also did the rounds on curated playlists and radio. A major player on the charts, this tour marks SZA’s first time down under.

The artist was speculated to headline this year’s Splendour In The Grass before the festival announced its line-up and subsequently cancelled its event.

The headline tour was announced in early February and sold out within the month. Apart from re-sale, only tickets for this week’s New Zealand shows are still up for grabs.

As for opener SiR, the singer has trekked to Down Under before, opening for Kendrick Lamar’s Splendour sideshows in 2018.

The last-minute addition to SZA’s tour is fresh off the release of his fourth album, HEAVY. SiR has pulled out all the stops for this new project, with features from Ty Dolla $ign, Isaiah Rashad, and Anderson. Paak

SZA has also continued to release new work in 2024, with the latest single, Saturn, emerging on February 22. The fast turnaround from last year’s album leaves much to speculation: Will there be a new project in 2024?

In the meantime, it seems the tour’s titular album will finally receive a Deluxe Edition. SZA posted to Twitter a few weeks ago:

“Will be dropping the leaks and outtakes from SOS as promised as the deluxe asap. Lana deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before seems fair . Bless ”
