Artists to Watch in 2019: Kult Kyss

28 December 2018 | 10:33 am | Emma Jones

Electronic music is a genre that can be quite fickle at times. Listeners and fans are so spoiled for choice in terms of new music to listen to and new artists to check out that to actually get their attention requires something different, something immediately captivating and something undeniable, and that's exactly what describes Melbourne duo KULT KYSS.

Comprised of RROMARIN and HAXX, the pair (FKA DEJA) create music for those hedonistic late nights where you're ready to give yourself over to the dark side of dance, if only for a few moments. Their music is equal parts ritualistic and hypnotic as it is virtual and futuristic, complete with pounding drums, chant-like vocals and brain-shattering synths, and it's their expert combination of these parts that make listening to their music not so much a passive moment in time, but an exhilarating experience.

Kult Kyss provide an escape through their music, and there's no denying we need that now more than we have in the past few years. Every release from them has been considered, fully-realised and powerful, from their most recent single, 'EKKO' to previous 2018 releases 'Chi Cup' and a cover of 'Chase The Sun' and beyond. Infectious, hypnotic, driving and meticulously put together, you can really feel the urgency of their music in wanting to break through and make you move and feel, creating an ultimately visceral listening experience that stays with you long after the song has finished.

With the recent release of 'EKKO' out on Risque Music, a performance on ABC's The Set, supporting THE PRESETS this year on their HI VIZ tour and an impressive stint at BIGSOUNDKult Kyss are primed and ready to make 2019 theirs. Their undeniable love of not only getting weird and dark with music, but also their mutual respect of making music that really connects with listeners is what sets them apart from the fray of electronic music artists, and its what is going to carry them into 2019 as a serious force. I can't wait to see what they do!
