Melburnian duo Willow Beats pulls us in with their dreamy fantasy-filled music video shot entirely underwater for their newest single 'Merewif' off 'Water'.
In this modernistic 21st century with its latest fashion statements, Melburnian Uncle-Niece duo, Willow Beats, thrive in an entirely different direction. With their latest new single Merewif knocking the balance off the charts, they create a fantasy-filled video that matches its heart.
Call it tight family ties as Kalyani Ellis's sleek, silky and addictive voice connects like puzzle pieces to Narayana Johnson's peculiar and distinctive work on the keys. The result is a track that is sluggish and moving, with a certain calmness that is both elegant and poise. There is a separate observable feeling that comes with a few listens; a wavy out of the body feeling that comes from having a different song structure and elements of the woods ingrained within.
Backtrack to some age-old English poem Beowulf, Merewif is translated as the "woman of the mere" who was a possessive and vengeful creature the great Scandinavian hero Beowulf was tasked to kill after killing her daughter, Grendel. After a great tussle in the water with magic and spells, a failing Beowulf finds an enchanted sword and slays the head of the Merwif. *claps*
Old myths and stories aside, the video of Merewif shot almost entirely in and around water shows their fascination with depths of the deep blue, showing the thin line of connection between reality and dreams and the struggle with waking up.
