Live Review: Willaris. K exceeds the hype with immersive new tracks and video trilogy

5 September 2017 | 4:52 pm | Molly McLaughlin

Northern NSW producer Willaris. K's atmospheric tracks 'Alchemy', 'River Song' and 'Dour Nights' are brought to life by a 12-minute short film.

Northern NSW producer, WILLARIS. K, has created an intense, moody world with his latest two singles, which form a trilogy alongside his breakout debut track 'Alchemy'. 'River Song' and 'Dour Nights' transform and develop his subtle style, both thematically and musically, and are brought to life by a 12-minute short film. Made by Sydney producer and director Yeoseop Yoon, in collaboration with Willaris. K, the video was shot over 3 days in the NSW countryside.

"Dour Nights, as represented in the film, is the feeling of that moment you let go of whatever it may be holding you back," explains Willaris K. "It has come through many forms and it's definitely taken the longest out of any other track to finish. River Song is basically a live, one take iPhone recording. You can actually hear me whisper to myself 'Don't fuck it up' in there somewhere. It is the turning point emotionally in the video."

Just five months ago, Willaris K. (otherwise known as Jack McAllister), began a one year hiatus from his job to focus on music full time. "I was still working full time as an Electrical and Instrument Technician (the footsteps you hear throughout are an iPhone recording taken from me walking on a tray I maintained at work) which only left me nights after work to work on new music. After I released 'Alchemy', the reception to it exceeded my expectations." So far, he has managed to create a sizeable buzz in a short amount of time, and it looks like the hype is only set to continue as he embarks on the summer festival circuit.
