Live Review: Community and culture are key for Sensible J's 'Fire Sign' video

12 September 2017 | 8:30 am | Max Lewis

Sensible J has dropped a new video for his single 'Fire Sign' ft. REMI and Sampa the Great, directed by Priit Siimon and shot while on tour in the UK.

Melbourne hip-hop producer SENSIBLE J aka Justin Smith has just dropped a brand new video for his debut single 'Fire Sign' featuring Remi Kolawole and Sampa the Great. The video comes off the back of a massive Aus tour for Remi. (of which Smith is one half) and Sampa The Great, and serves as the first taste of Sensible J's upcoming debut album.

After getting his start playing drums live and in studio with partner-in-crime REMI, Sensible J's first solo effort premiered on 2017 with Richard Kingsmill and quickly garnered massive attention with solid, breezy production and killer features from long-time collaborators REMI and Sampa the Great.

Director Priit Siimon wrote that the video was made while the trio were on tour in the UK, "shot randomly wherever we felt there was a vibe." It shifts between live shows, in-studio jamming and tour shenanigans, and explores the track's themes of engaging with one's culture and community as we see them exploring downtown London and engaging with the locals.

Community continues to be a big part of the 'Fire Sign' ethos, as the trio embarked on a massive national tour earlier this year. Supports and surprise guests were handpicked local artists in each city, and a coin toss determined who played first - encouraging music fans to stay the whole night and support their local musicians.

'Fire Sign' is a sign of great things to come from Sensible J, and we're definitely looking forward to what he comes out with next. Keep an eye on any new music via his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
