Live Review: Rejjie Snow announces new album 'Baw Baw Black Sheep' alongside new single 'Relax'

Rejjie Snow has announced new album 'Baw Baw Black Sheep' with one of his best singles to date, 'Relax' with a chilled out clip in Egypt.

Three years since the release of his debut LP 'Dear Annie', Dublin raised rapper Rejjie Snow has announced the release of his sophomore album, 'Baw Baw Black Sheep' set to release on the 9th of July. Accompanying the announce is his vibe packed new single, 'Relax' featuring LA music collective grouptherapy and is produced by Cam O'bi.

'Relax' is aptly named, acting as simply a mode to instill calm into the audience. A head bob worthy, spacey trap beat cleverly utilises infused nature sounds and combines perfect with that classic Rejjie Snow delivery. Whether work, lockdowns, or life in general is taking its toll, Rejjie invites you to take a deep breath and 'Relax'. It's smooth and silky and god does it serve an important purpose.

With the rapper known as a full fledged world builder through his chill riddled flow and strong production, it's no surprise the single comes with an equally strong visual. Shot by frequent collaborator Matter Research in Egypt, the clip sees Rejjie with a surreal level of casualness, seemingly having just rolled out bed next to the Great Pyramid of Giza. As he makes bigger and bigger waves across the alternate rap lane, it's no surprise the two icons sit so comfortably next to each other.

With his previous single 'Cookie Chips' with the late MF DOOM and ‘Mirrors’ with Snoh Aalegra both finding their way onto the forthcoming album, 'Baw Baw Black Sheep' is beginning to set a very special tone. On the creation of the album, Rejjie explains, “I approached [the album] light heartedly from the point of view of making a short film through music. I always loved Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. I watch it all the time. I thought of Baw Baw Black Sheep like a soundtrack to it. I put the movie on with my album, and they synced up perfectly. I tried to tap into all of these feelings. The music is really colourful, and the lyrics are often happy, because that was my state of mind.”
