Live Review: PREMIERE: Bask in the 'Glow' of Gold Fields' new clip

14 April 2019 | 6:01 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Giving us full-hearted psychedelia electro-pop today are Ballarat-via-Melbourne five-piece GOLD FIELDS. They've just dropped their second studio record, Dalawa, on Friday; their second long release in a year and their first record in six.

Titled Dalawa, the record is a nod to guitarist Vin Andanar's Filipino heritage, the word meaning 'two' in the Tagalog language.

To celebrate the release of the record, they've given us a hot lil first look at their clip to accompany their track 'Glow' which you can check out below.

The transcendent single that clocks in at over 8 minutes has been given an immaculately intense visual, teeming with psychedelic imagery, symmetry and an evocative colour palette. Silhouettes of the band members are cast through the glow of the visuals, each member in their own world, doing their own thing.

'Glow' marks a new era for Gold Fields, one of free sonic exploration that stemmed from knowing when to take a break. After touring relentlessly up until 2014 in support of their debut record, the group took a break to pursue other things for a bit. Their meeting back up resulted in a new kind of sound, one born out of freedom and lack of constraint.

What's resulted is a new era for the band. One where their music is both fully formed and emotionally charged, and one where their new found method for recording and creating has resulted in some of their best work yet.

“Every song on this record came out because it had to,” says vocalist Mark Fuller. “It was written, there was no rush. It was this super natural process of writing whatever we felt like we needed to write and then recording when we felt like we had the stuff ready. It’s just what we liked and what we thought sounded cool. This one was written just for us.”
