Live Review: Young Franco joins forces with Maribelle for funk-filled ‘Girls Don’t Cry’

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve last heard from YOUNG FRANCO, but today the Brisbane producer has finally returned, teaming up with Melbourne singer/songwriter/producer MARIBELLE for another simmering dancefloor filler. Having previously collaborated on the infectious bop ‘Miss You’, the dream team have linked up once again to create another groovy little number called ‘Girls Don’t Cry’. This track follows Franco's grime flavoured 2017 single, 'About This Thing' which features West London's SCRUZZIFER and his most recent remix of DUA LIPA'S hit single 'IDGAF',

‘Girls Don’t Cry’ oozes with funky slick pop, its bouncy synth waves and sparkling quick-paced sound will no doubt be heard on dancefloors all summer long. There’s nothing more painful than being hopelessly, desperately in love with someone all the while knowing that your feelings will never be reciprocated. Maribelle and Young Franco have soundtracked these tragic emotions that come with unrequited love, taking the foundations of a classic pop song and soaking it in warm drums and a ridiculously catchy hook to create a glistening and defiant electro-pop anthem. The summery instrumentals dance around every word Maribelle sings, her honest songwriting shining as she yearns for a love that's not hers.

These two have been writing music together for quite some time now, constantly teasing us with snippets on their Instagram stories and according to Maribelle, this track is the first of many more collabs to come. In celebration of the new single, Young Franco has announced a huge upcoming tour for this November and he’ll be taking Maribelle along for the ride. If the new single is any indication of how brilliant their future collabs and this upcoming tour is going to be, we’re in for a glorious, funk-filled treat.
