TOURIST, aka Grammy winning producer/composer William Phillips, is back with his second track for the year ‘Someone Else’. This deeply ambient tune is described by Phillips as a “dust clearing moment” ahead of upcoming music releases, blending elements of electronic and indie genres to create an impressionistic soundscape that encapsulates the summation of the artist’s mixed areas of interest in music.
Prior to the release of ‘Someone Else’, Phillips put out ‘Apollo’ and last year’s Wash EP under his Tourist moniker, along with remixes for the likes of fezzy faves Wolf Alice, Christine & The Queens and Rostam. The artist also released a ‘Tourist Essentials’ mix comprising of his own most notable tracks (can you imagine how hard that would be to curate OMG). The artwork for ‘Someone Else’ comes from photographer and filmmaker Nigel Shafran, who was also engaged previously with Phillips in directing the mesmerizingly minimalistic music video for ‘Apollo’.
It doesn’t seem to slow down for this busy body who released his self-titled debut EP back in 2012. Phillips last saw Aussie shores last year at the 2017 Laneway Festival and is set to do it all again in 2019 with appearances at Pitch Music & Arts Festival in Victoria and Days Like This Festival in Sydney. With the promise of new music and a self-curated collection of essential listening, this sound like some good news and some good listening to our ear holes and we cannot wait!
