Live Review: SG Lewis does it 'Again' with his absorbing club track featuring Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

SG Lewis's 'Again' featuring TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS, the second release off Dusk is an absorbing ode to letting go and being young.

It’s the weekend routine. We get ready, we get drunk, we go out and we watch in an alcoholic haze as the sun rises. This describes SG LEWIS’S latest 3-part concept Album Dusk, Dark, Dawn, a trilogy that explores the changing dynamics of a night out. While Dusk (released earlier this year), with its upbeat funk, heavy house and sometimes pop electro beats covers the pre-drinks, the come-up and the excitement of what’s ahead. Dark explores the deepest part of the night, the part where the music is at its most absorbing. ‘Again’, the second and latest release off Dark (following on from A.A.T) and featuring TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS, shows us this.

The track starts off slowly repeating the words, ‘turn it around, start it again’, as the backing track, the eerie vocals and the subtle house beat builds. About a quarter of the way through a dark funk-house beat drops in as the vocals continue to repeat, ‘turn it around, start it again’. The song is expressive even though it is seemingly simple, this mostly comes through the euphoria it creates in its slow, deep builds and drawn out melodies. The most endearing quality of the song, however, is its ability to embody the feeling of letting go and not giving a fuck, a feeling that we’ve all likely experienced at some point in our youth.

The video that accompanies 'Again' is as dark as the track is. It showcases a low-lit cityscape with a lone figure. The same scene replays over and over as TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS's vocals coo over the production. It's simple yet beautiful and through layered production creates a sense of confusion that comes with going out and figuring things out.
