Sydney's finest purveyors of dance funk, MEL BLUE, are back with another single to brighten all our days.

Sydney's finest purveyors of dance funk, MEL BLUE, are back with another single to brighten all our days. Titled 'Wake Up Call', this latest release follows in the same vein as their first two singles in that its upbeat, warm and infectious, but also doubles as a showcase of some of their finest work yet.

Keeping that quintessentially nostalgic sound in their groovy bass line, Mel Blue channel Toro Y Moi or Parcels with this latest funk-fuelled cut. It's a forlorn affair though, despite its carefree dance roots, documenting the struggles that came with a long distance relationship.

The band's Oscar Sharah said of 'Wake Up Call', “The song was actually written, recorded and produced in 12 hours. I [Oscar] came up with the chord progression and a little beat, called Luke at 10pm to work on bass and guitar, and we didn’t go to sleep until 2am. By 10am the next morning, I had the vocals written and recorded. It was like some kind of writer’s high.”

He continued, explaining, “One of the hardest aspects of a long distance relationship to me was the time difference. When I was going to sleep she was just waking up. When she was having dinner I was having my morning coffee. I’d go to bed excited, knowing that I was going to get a FaceTime call first thing in the morning - it was my wake up call."
