Live Review: Luke Alessi shares new EP ‘Matter’ featuring 90's UK dance legends Stereo MC's

Naarm based Luke Alessi has gifted us with his strongest release yet, ‘Matter’, featuring 90s hip-hop & electronic legends Stereo MC’s.

Melodic-techno don Luke Alessi continues on his upward trajectory with his new EP ‘Matter’ calling in UK dance legends Stereo MC’s for a vocal feature and Aaaron for the remix. Following a string of releases and remixes to close out 2020, Luke puts his strongest foot forward with his debut release on Berlin’s Mobilee Records.

The title track combines a powerful and poignant lead that evolves alongside Stereo MC’s atmospheric and soft vocal story; travelling together through dazzling heights and grooving rhythmic states, an enjoyable and enveloping experience throughout. Warm and crisp production underlies the iconic and familiar sounds of Stereo MC’s, who also head up the successful dance label Connected following a career spanning nearly 30 years. Remix on the lead comes from Innervisions / Connected artist, Aaron, fresh from his release on Dixon’s Transmoderna imprint last year. The EP is completed with ‘Tills Theme’, with a similarly uplifting melodic tale featuring arpeggiated leads and twisting elements that we have come to expect from Luke’s developed sound, this time reminiscent of parties deep within the dust or on a palm fringed shore.

"When I floated the idea to my manager about sending this song to Stereo MC’s to add a vocal I thought it was a long shot, but we sent it anyway. To have them not only come back and say they liked the track but were keen to work on it was incredibly exciting, humbling and something I’m forever grateful for."

Following a run of sold out shows in Melbourne that included plays alongside Made In Paris for Untitled’s Timber Yard Day Party, Bourke Street Courtyard and a return to the Revolver Upstairs cage, expect Luke Alessi will continue to develop a sound that is his own and take it to the world.
