Live Review: Kllo prove patience is a 'Virtue' with new single

13 July 2017 | 2:28 pm | Lloyd Crackett

Longtime groove-makers Kllo announce their debut album Backwater with the release of 'Virtue', a euphoric bop to help bounce your feelings out

There is something innately niche about KLLO. It’s undeniable that there are pop elements that guide their tracks and distinct genre references- UK garage, 2 step, old RnB which bring it all together. These all underpin the success of Kllo but, it’s this melding in which Kllo remain within their self-carved niche. Chloe Kaul’s voice seems to exist entirely within their tracks but simultaneously on its own wavelength, her lyrics exist not only to dance to but also to convey, not just hooks to prompt dance breaks but lyrics to count on.

‘Virtue’ is the lead single from Kllo’s upcoming debut album Backwater. Of the album, Chloe Kaul says, “It’s the first time we hadn’t felt like kids anymore…we were really able to dive in deeper and bring out more of us into the music." The album promises to be exploration of Kllo’s talents, as the longer format gives them room to breathe, moving from full-blown bops to tender piano ballads. Backwater will feature 12 tracks and will be out 20th of October through Good Manners Records/Caroline AustraliaGhostly International and Different Recordings.

Kllo’s lead single ‘Virtue’ is a perfect first taste of the upcoming album. Combining the illustrious vocals of Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam’s rich production, the track is beautiful and danceable. The near melancholic hook of "Can I count on you?" is eased by the driving force of Lam’s tirade of drums and chorus of synths. Together they provide a track, not for a thumping club but an impossibly cool party. Kllo isn’t music to get wasted to, it’s music for a long time groove with a couple of your favourite honeys. It’s just a taste of what to come and no doubt, it’s going to be an absolute feast for new and old fans alike.
