Live Review: Let Kira Puru light up your day with 'Molotov'

12 June 2018 | 8:39 am | Max Lewis

Melbourne artist Kira Puru has dropped pure fire with her latest single 'Molotov' - a quirky and groovy yet powerful pop tune.

If you somehow haven't been exposed to the magic of KIRA PURU, there's no time like the present. Her latest single, 'Molotov', is what it says on the tin and so much more - an explosion of tight, hard-hitting pop.

Kira Puru has been floating in local scenes for a little while, but it was with her single 'Tension' last year that the world finally started to pay attention. With the driving rhythm of dance-punk mixed with Kira's striking presence and lyrics, it was the definition of a bop, scoring her sold out headline shows and over a million streams on Spotify. 'Molotov' proves she hasn't slowed down yet: it's captivating, groovy, and everything we've come to expect from one of Australia's most unique voices.

With a strong bassline and pounding beat, the first few seconds of 'Molotov' set the scene perfectly. Kira dominates the track with her vocals, both through the biting yet catchy lyrics and her charismatic yet powerful delivery. The chorus is a short-but-sweet snapshot of an ear-worm hook and a raw and groovy instrumental, with Kira painting a vivid image of someone entering a dancefloor knowing exactly what they are going to do and how they'll do it.

Of the track, Kira Puru says that “it speaks to the reality that I am - notoriously almost always up for a good time.” 'Molotov' encapsulates this and so much more, oozing her unique persona and distilling it through her punky yet groovy sensibilities. It's another home run for an artist that has dropped nothing but solid gold so far - we can just tell this is one of those tracks that, appropriately enough, is going to blow up.
