Melbourne duo GL have come back into light and dropped their new single release, ‘Destiny’.
Following on from a pretty hectic summer festival season with performances at St Jerome’s Laneway, Paradise and Splore (NZ) among many others, the pair barred themselves away in the studio, resulting in the dreamy, easy listening sounds of 'Destiny'.
GL only just last year released what was arguably one of the best albums of 2016 with their album, Touch, and have wasted no time in feeding their creative flares and spawning fresh material, successfully raising their musical ambitions to a new level.
‘Destiny’ opens with a thumping bass-line, setting up some serious 1980s vibes for the tune. Percussion and cosmic synths secure its supersonic soundscape, with Ella Thompson’s captivating, reverberated vocals delicately glueing together vast array of instrument textures.

Backing vocals from Jace XL and a multitude of layered vocal harmonies further combine the complex timbres of the track, producing a smooth and glossy finish that’s laced with colour and sheen.
GL reflect on their path to creating “Destiny’, stating “[it is about] looking for the positives and finding happiness in those around us. We were very lucky to have many friends lend their skills to this song - Jace XL singing harmonies, Haima Marriott on the mix and Phil Binotto on percussion. It is them, and so many other muses, that inspire us everyday. The world is pretty fucked up at the moment but if we all come together, maybe the heart ache will soon be gone."
‘Destiny’ the first half of GL’s forthcoming double-A-sided single ‘Destiny/Reflect’ soon to be available on 12", and is the first 100% independent release for the duo.
GL will be performing shows in Sydney and Melbourne for the official release of ‘Destiny/Reflect’, with special guests Fortunes. and more local talents also joining the bill. For tickets, see GL’s Facebook and check out the dates below!
