Live Review: Felivand Returns With Lush New Single And Video 'Butterfly Wings'

Meanjin/Brisbane based singer, songwriter and producer Felivand has today evolved her already adored sound with her new single, 'Butterfly Wings'.

The single, which acts as her first release of 2022 follows a breakout pair of years for the artist. Here 2020 sophomore EP, 'Nerve', saw her soul tinged music dive deeply into darker shades of pop and neo-soul, being likened to bedroom and DIY artists globally. It's followup track, 'Where Were You' began a new sonic chapter for the artist, acting as a warm emotionally driven piece, that was equal parts uplifting and reflective.

'Butterfly Wings' extends the sonic platform of Felivand, as she leans deeply into the pop side of her songwriting repertoire. On the single, she teams up with LA-Based producers Wes Singerman (known for his work with Anderson .Paak and Carly Rae Jepsen) and Taydex (who has worked with Wafia and Kyle Dion) to create a thought provoking, percussion led, sway worthy number. Above the rhythmic section sits playful synths and a contemplative and insightful vocal performance from Felivand. What eventuates is the perfect platform for her to showcase her lyrical prowess, one that provokes growth and curiosity.

On the single, Felivand stated, "Sometimes I feel really protected and guided by a higher universal force and other times I feel defeated and clueless as to why things happen the way they do.

"I wrote this song when I felt directly in the middle of these two perspectives."
