Live Review: PREMIERE: CHYMES and her new single will make you 'Feel Better'

11 March 2021 | 12:01 pm | Emma Jones

CHYMES delivers one of her finest singles yet in the moody and angelic 'Feel Better', lifted from her forthcoming new EP 'Hell & Divine'.

We've been across CHYMES for a minute now, and have covered the act's evolution from a bedroom-pop duo to a solo superstar-in-waiting. Following on from a string of impressive singles, CHYMES is getting ready to unleash her new EP, Hell & Divine, in late May and has been slowly adding more and more to the picture of where she is now personally and artistically. It's been an exciting run to watch, and we're thrilled to bring you the latest addition to this today with her latest single 'Feel Better' premiering now on Purple Sneakers. On this single, CHYMES delivers glistening, seductive and commanding electronic-infused pop, melding her breathy, angelic vocals with moody, intoxicating production to create a fully formed listening experience.

CHYMES said of the new single, “’Feel Better’ is a song for when you know you’ve given too much, you’re in too deep and you’ve lost the game. It describes that feeling of being alone yet still feeling trapped by someone’s pull, ‘I can still feel your hands on me,’ knowing that at any moment you’d still go back.

"It’s kind of like a message to that person saying ‘I know this is a game for you - does it make you feel better knowing I’m in too deep? Does it boost your ego?’ I wanted the production of the track to be more upbeat but still have strong dynamics in it’s ups and downs. I wanted the chorus to be a more intimate moment with the post section feeling like a big release and lean towards euphoric, so you can cry-dance alone in your room to it haha.”

With Hell & Divine focused on power struggles and the journey one takes to find their voice, 'Feel Better' is a powerful moment as CHYMES comes into her own more than ever before. CHYMES has always had an ability to be beautifully understated, and to let her music do the talking, and this is on show here in 'Feel Better'. It's only up from here.
