Live Review: Blessed is 'Superfly' on his powerful new single

12 March 2018 | 6:23 pm | Max Lewis

Sydney musician and producer Blessed has graced us with 'Superfly', a refreshingly honest and up-beat track full of self-love and positive vibes.

Sydney based, Ghana born BLESSED has, fittingly, blessed us with another upbeat anthem in the form of 'Superfly.' It follows on from 'Insanity' and 'My World' from his debut EP Love Letters, which made rounds on Triple J, MTV and amassed over 400,000 plays via Spotify.

Alongside dropping 'Superfly', Blessed also announced his first ever tour, supporting JOY. and Anfa Rose through Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in March and April.

Where his earlier tracks bustled with dark, nervous energy, 'Superfly' absolutely bounces with self-love and positive vibes. Starting with a kick and snare setting up a simple yet commanding beat, the track soon explodes with booming bass, soaring electric guitar, and layers of Blessed's vocals taking up almost every inch of the mix. The chorus is a self-affirming mantra where the narrator wishes to be somewhere where he can be happy, yet accepts his life in the 'matrix'. Repetition of the fact he is 'Superfly' reinforces the desire to make do with what you have, and I'll be damned if it isn't infectiously catchy.

Genre-wise, 'Superfly' is hard to pin down, but that's whats so enchanting about it. It combines elements of rock, hip-hop, psychedelia and pop and to create a refreshingly honest track. It's good vibes at their vibe-iest, and with such a mix of genres there's something for everyone in 'Superfly'.
