Live Review: Big Wild 'Aftergold'

29 April 2015 | 4:27 pm | Emma Jones

The most recent release from ODESZA's Foreign Family Collective comes in the form of Big Wild's 'Aftergold', a meticulous, uplifting and unpredictable track

Seattle dance lords ODESZA have quite literally gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months. And the announcement of their own record label, Foreign Family Collective, comes not so much as a surprise but a natural progression from one of the most exciting acts in the electronic scene.

Describing it as "an outlet for musicians and visual artists alike curated by the duo behind ODESZA," - their second release from the collective comes in the form of 'Aftergold' - an intricately created dance track by BIG WILD.

Muffled handclaps, wind chimes, spliced vocal samples and rolling waves of bass, 'Aftergold' is plush and sprawling. Evoking emotions in the world music blend with clear influence from their label-heads ODESZA, it's really no wonder at all that Big Wild would be associated with the duo.

The tracks rises and falls, with layers being added to the mix before being stripped away in one great, dynamic mix. Brass sections and cymbal crashes play over the chorus of vocal samples, serving as an instrument themselves the way they've been sliced up and put back together.

Warm and sunshine-y, 'Aftergold' is an uplifting track that reaches near euphoric levels as it completely lets go. The LA producer has offered up a seriously impressive release with this tune, utilising unusual and unpredictable arrangements to create something that is entirely different from the over-saturated sounds of his LA peers.

'Aftergold' is available for free download now, and is hopefully indicative of even more exceptional work from the young producer.
