Just days before the Hottest 100 of 2023 kicks off, triple j have shared some exciting stats to tease the big countdown.

Right off the bat, we have the bombshell revelation that only one vote separates two songs in the Top Five – meaning your vote could wind up being the reason a track charts as highly as it will.

Also confirmed was that Hottest 100 voters were staunch in rallying around their local faves, with 52 songs in the upcoming countdown being released by Australian artists. Five of those songs were heard for the first time on triple j Unearthed, too.

Meanwhile, the data proves that last June was the hottest month for new music, delivering more songs in the countdown than any other month. Less hot, however, was triple j’s “language warning” ident – this time around there are 109 F-bombs across the entire countdown, marking a 16 percent reduction from last year’s Hottest 100.

And as a whole, this year’s countdown will make Hottest 100 history with three massive records being smashed in the vote.

The countdown itself will kick off at 12pm Saturday, followed by the Hottest 200-101 at 10am on Sunday (January 28). You can listen to the Hottest 100 on the radio, stream online through the triple j website, app or via digital radio services, and keep up as the results roll in through Instagram and TikTok.

According to Warm Tunas – “the internet’s most accurate” predictors of the Hottest 100 – Troye Sivan’s Rush is tipped to be the reigning champion in this year’s countdown. Boygenius come in at #2 with Not Strong Enough, followed by Rumble by Skrillex, Fred again.. and Flowdan at #3, What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish at #4, and Rhyme Dust by MK and Dom Dolla at #5.

Will their predictions ring true? You’ll have to tune in to find out...
