Travis Scott Confirms ‘Utopia’ Release Date + New Movie

Travis Scott has sent fans into a tizzy with the news that his highly anticipated new album Utopia will drop next week (July 28).

But that’s not all - the rapper also revealed that the album and an accompanying film, titled Circus Maximum, will be released in theatres on the same day.

Scott revealed news of the impending drop during his set at Rolling Loud Miami festival on Saturday night (July 22), where he played a trailer for the album and film on the big screen during his performance.

Alongside the launch, the SICKO MODE hitmaker is holding an album listening party and live stream at none other than the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on July 28.

The event briefly ran into a SANFU shortly after Scott announced the show via Instagram on July 7, when The Egyptian Musicians Syndicate then said (via Egypt Today) that it would no longer go ahead due to safety concerns and “peculiar rituals performed by the star during his performance, contradicting our authentic societal values and traditions.”

Despite this, Live Nation has confirmed the event is still on in a statement that said (via Consequence): “There have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt; any reports to the contrary are false.”

“We can’t wait to celebrate Utopia with you in Egypt!”

Utopia serves as Scott’s first full-length record since 2018’s Astroworld, which was followed by the devastating Astroworld Festival tragedy during which ten fans lost their lives in a crowd crush that police called a “mass casualty incident.”

While families of the dead festivalgoers shifted blame to the Houston-born rapper and Live Nation, District Attorney Kim Ogg announced on June 30, that "no single individual was criminally responsible" for the disaster.

“In this instance, the grand jury of the 228th District Court of Harris County found that no crime did occur, that no single individual was criminally responsible,” the DA said.

“It is tragic that 10 innocent people were killed while trying to enjoy an evening of music and entertainment, something many of us do routinely and without a second thought to our safety. But a tragedy isn’t always a crime, and not every death is a homicide."

“This grand jury’s determination has no impact on the many civil lawsuits pending.”
