TIDAL Are Trialling A New, 'Live DJ Sessions' Feature

13 January 2023 | 11:56 am | Parry Tritsiniotis

A user can choose from TIDAL's catalogue of more than 90 million tracks and play it back live to their audience.

TIDAL is currently trialling a new feature on the music streaming platform that allows subscribers to host DJ sessions that other users on the platform can engage with.

Fans will be able to tune into the DJ sessions and hear a user choose from TIDAL's catalogue of more than 90 million tracks and listen in as it is being played back live.

Currently, fans listening will only be able to listen to the music in a standard quality format, rather than the high fidelity lossless audio streaming that TIDAL claims are its major competitive advantage over other streaming platforms.

According to a press release, "tracks will play in normal AAC quality until high-resolution or lossless quality becomes available at a later date.”

To try out the feature, you must be in the US and be a subscriber to their US$20 per month HiFi Plus plan. It is anticipated that the feature will be free for all once it passes the testing phase.

TIDAL was initially founded in October of 2014 by Aspiro before being bought three months later by Jay Z's Project Panther Bidco. He then sold the company to Twitter's co-founder Jack Dorsey in May 2021.
