This Week’s Best New Music: Confidence Man, JessB, KUČKA & More

It’s been a HUGE week for new indie, hip-hop and EDM releases – not only did we get fresh new tunes from some of Australia’s finest up-and-comers, like JessB (who just dropped Commando), KUČKA (who blessed us with Heavyweight) and Dom Dolla (whose new cut girl$ is destined to be a hit), but the international heavyweights were out in full force: Peggy Gou came in hot with her wicked new banger Back To One, for example, while Denzel Curry delivered another instant classic in HOT ONE, and Porter Robinson got his fans going absolutely mental with Russian Roulette.

With all of that in mind, now seems like as good a time as any to remind you – or clue you in, if you didn’t know already – that we have our very own playlist dedicated to bringing you the best new music from the underground and beyond, fittingly named Purple Sneakers’ Best New Music. We update it every Friday with more than a dozen of the brand new tracks we simply can’t get enough of, giving you the ultimate soundtrack to power your weekend.

WHAT THEY SAY: “It’s a fucked up sort of world. It's 3am, it’s never not 3am, and we party all the time.”

JessB – Commando

WHAT SHE SAYS: “During the week I was there in the studio, the writing that I was doing all felt like it was more ‘serious’ in terms of lyrical content, so this was just a chance for me to have some fun. Half Queen was in the studio with me when this song was created – she actually came up with a couple of lines in the song which was fun!”

KUČKA – Heavyweight

WHAT SHE SAYS: “Heavyweight has a devil-on-your-shoulder quality to it. That cheeky voice telling you you’re the champion (of your own delusions).”

LÂLKA & Hatsune Miku – Romance + Rebellion

WHAT SHE SAYS: “I am thrilled to have embarked on this cohesive and immersive journey alongside Hatsune Miku to develop a special edition of the title song of my anniversary album and hopefully craft an auditory experience like no other… This anniversary mix reflects this nostalgia while being optimistic and otherworldly as it is brutal, driving and hedonistic, structured in a way that's ripe for underground raves, otaku nightclubs and industrial warehouse parties – ultimately arriving at empowerment through it all, bringing the listener along with it.”
