The Kid LAROI has released a “super personal” tribute to his close friend, late rapper Juice WRLD, in the form of a track called Where Does Your Spirit Go?

The 19-year-old Australian rapper debuted the heartfelt track at Coachella on Saturday, April 15, before releasing the official audio on YouTube on Friday, April 21.

Posting to social media upon its release, LAROI spoke of his late friend and mentor, who died in December 2019 as a result of oxycodone and codeine toxicity.

“This wasn’t in the release plans but I played it this weekend at Coachella and I just felt like the time was right for some reason,” he wrote in the post.

“This one means a lot to me. it’s super personal. it’s a song about loss, grieving and dealing with the thoughts and emotions that come with that."

He added: “I pray for all of you who are going through something similar currently and I hope this helps you feel a little less alone in all of it. I love you guys, and thanks for everything.”

Where Does Your Spirit Go? is the latest single from LAROI’s forthcoming album, The First Time, following the release of singles Love Again and The Kids Are Growing Up (Part 1).

No official release date has been announced for the album just yet, though it's expected to arrive sometime this year.

The Kid LAROI's career took off after the Aussie star was discovered by Juice WRLD's manager, Peter Jideonwo

The two artists quickly formed a bond, and Juice WRLD took The Kid LAROI under his wing, mentoring him and helping him navigate the music industry.

The connection ran so deep that the teen hip-hop star has often referred to the late rapper as his "big brother".

"That was my big brother. I learned a whole lot from him; I’m super-duper inspired by him if you couldn’t tell. I don’t know, to me, he is really the greatest," he said in an interview with Hot New Hip Hop in 2020.

The two collaborated on multiple tracks, including Reminds Me of You, which was released posthumously after Juice WRLD's passing.

"Thank you for everything, bro," LAROI wrote at the time of the track's release. "Without you, there would be no me. I love and miss you unconditionally."
