thatboykwame has taken to social media to encourage Australian creatives to think outside of the music industry when it comes to sharing art.

“I believe we don’t have the right infrastructure to facilitate the needs of Australian artists. But that shouldn’t stop you from knowing what you want, what you deserve, and, especially, where you see yourself,” he said in a video shared on social media.

In his video, the artist speaks on how those who don’t know where they’d fit in the music industry in our country need to think outside the box – or, in this case, outside Australia. He continues: “If you feel like you’re creating art that this industry isn’t gonna understand nor know where to place you, I encourage you to think bigger.”

The WOW rapper says local artists shouldn’t be discouraged at the state of the industry at the moment, and that they shouldn’t let it “deter” them from their “goals, dreams, and aspirations”.

“We’re constantly told in order for our art to connect globally, we need to tick certain boxes here before it connects. That’s not how art works.”

He goes on to say that “we have great artists”, but the Aussie music industry simply can’t fulfill the needs of developing musicians.

Quoting New Zealand DJ and producer Zane Lowe, thatboykwame continues, “When you release your art, it’s not just being released to the one region you’re from. It’s being released to the world.”

“There’s a whole world out there waiting to experience your greatness and creativity. See it for yourself, and especially, believe it for yourself - because your belief system is gonna open the path that you’re looking for.”

thatboykwame recently changed his artist name from Kwame to reduce confusion over Queens artist Kwamé, as well as to signal a new era of creativity.
