On Sunday (31 March), the final date of the inaugural Souled Out festival wrapped up in Perth, concluding a five-date epic run in Australia and New Zealand.

Souled Out brought modern R&B stars we’ve been waiting for to our shores, with the event headlined by Summer Walker, Bryson Tiller and PARTYNEXTDOOR (the latter of whom wasn’t impressed with Australia). The festival also locked in Lucky Daye, Majid Jordan, Libianca, Tinashe, Smino, Umi and more.

“R&B as a genre now is as strong as ever, and it’s about time Australia gets a live experience dedicated to it,” Emal Naim, Souled Out and FestCo co-founder, said in a press release. “This has been a long time coming.”

As Naim revealed in a recent interview with The Guardian, the Sydney leg of Souled Out sold 15,000 tickets.

“We target a demographic of people that have never been targeted before in this country,” Naim said. “Going to a multi-genre festival for a specific talent can be hard to justify, but our audience gets to see everyone on their Spotify playlist.”

While Naim has sung the new festival’s praises in press releases and interviews, on LinkedIn, Naim revealed what a “monumental milestone” Souled Out achieved on its first run, selling more than 75,000 tickets in five cities.

“Thrilled to share that Souled Out, our labor [sic] of love and a celebration of the R&B/Soul community, has hit a monumental milestone, selling over 75,000 tickets across 5 cities,” Naim wrote on LinkedIn. “This journey has been nothing short of incredible, fueled [sic] by the passion and dedication of our amazing team, artists, partners, and, most importantly, our incredible attendees who saw their own vision come to life.

“Your unwavering support and enthusiasm have turned this brand to a movement that transcends geographical boundaries and unites people through the universal language of music and art.”

Naim went on to thank “every single person” who made the dream of Souled Out come true, including the crew behind the scenes or on stage, and “most importantly, you, the crowd, you guys are the heartbeat of the brand.

“I think it’s safe to say, music festivals in this country are alive and well, and Souled Out is here to stay”.

Souled Out was held at Sydney’s Parramatta Park, the Gold Coast’s Doug Jennings Park, Auckland’s Trust Arena Outdoors, Melbourne’s Caribbean Park, and Perth’s Claremont Showground.
