Skrillex, Four Tet And Fred Again.. Perform Massive Coachella 2023 Set From Frank Ocean's Ice Rink

24 April 2023 | 5:21 pm | Jessie Lynch

"When they ask me who the holy trinity is ima say Four Tet, Skrillex, and Fred Again."

In what made for an explosive finale to Coachella 2023, three of the biggest names in electronic music: Skrillex, Four Tet, and Fred Again.. joined forces for an epic set that did not disappoint.

The trio were named as replacements for Frank Ocean after he pulled out of Coachella Weekend Two last week due to an ankle injury following a disappointing headline show during Weekend One.

A representative for Ocean said in a statement to Variety last week: “Frank Ocean will not be performing at Weekend Two of Coachella.

“After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1. Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity.

“On doctor’s advice, [Ocean] is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.”

Luckily, it seems that the EDM legends were the perfect choice to close out Coachella 2023 following an (also fantastic) performance from Blink-182, with both festival punters and those watching from home praising the hyped set on social media.

The boys came in hot from the get-go, performing on a 360 stage that had previously been Frank Ocean's doomed ice skating rink.

Among some of the huge moments from the final headline set at Coachella included having the crowd hold their phone lights in the air before blacking out the lights in what made for a rave party of massive proportions, and Fred and Skrillex having the time of their lives dancing on the tables as Four Tet hit the decks, during which he dropped Taylor Swift's Love Story.

He also once again managed to work COUNTRY RIDDIM by HOL! into the set - three times.

It wasn't the only pop inclusion among the eclectic set, with Miley Cyrus' old-school hit Party In The USA also making the tracklist.

Punters also went wild as Fred Again.. dropped a remix of Blink-182's I Miss You, telling the crowd, "Make some noise for Blink-182".

They also gave a nod to Aussie DJ Fisher - who also performed at this year's Coachella - by performing a remix of his hit track with Chris Lake, Losing It.

The trio have been working on music together for the past year and have since turned into one of the most adored friendships in the electronic dance music world.

Recently all three played a five-hour set at Madison Square Garden in conjunction with Skrillex’s recent albums Quest for Fire and Don’t Get Too Close.

Skrillex, the Grammy-winning producer and DJ has been a fixture on the electronic dance scene since the early 2010s.

Best known for his high-energy performances and hard-hitting beats, he has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, from Justin Bieber to Rihanna. With his electrifying sets and chart-topping hits, Skrillex has become a household name in the world of electronic music.

Meanwhile, Four Tet is the British electronic music producer who has been pushing the boundaries of the genre since the late 1990s.

Known for his innovative approach to sampling and looping, Four Tet's music is a fusion of multiple genres, from ambient and techno to folk and jazz. With a string of critically acclaimed albums and EPs under his belt, Four Tet has become one of the most respected and influential electronic music producers of his generation.

Rounding out the trio is Fred Again.., the enigmatic producer and songwriter who burst onto the scene in 2020 with his debut album Actual Life (April 14 - December 17 2020).

A protege of the late producer SOPHIE, Fred Again.. has quickly become one of the most exciting and experimental artists in electronic music. His unique blend of glitchy beats, chopped-up samples, and emotive songwriting has won him a devoted following and critical acclaim, which was recently highlighted in his impressive Tiny Desk performance earlier this month.

After their incredible efforts at Coachella 2023, we're sure that we'll be seeing a lot more from these three.
