Indonesian pop icon NIKI has announced a sprawling world tour in support of her upcoming third album, Buzz, including a run of Australian dates for early next year.

The tour is NIKI’s biggest to date, with a total of 44 shows on the itinerary between this September and next April. Her dates in Australia come at the tail end of the trek, starting on Wednesday March 5 in Perth (Boorloo). She’ll then perform in Brisbane (Meanjin) on Friday March 7, then Sydney (Eora) on Sunday March 9, before wrapping things up in Melbourne (Naarm) on Thursday March 13.

At the time of writing, no venues have been announced for NIKI’s Australian tour dates, nor do we know when tickets will go on sale. The last time she toured here, last September, she performed at some impressively large venues – Festival Hall in Melbourne, the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney and the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane – so we wouldn’t be surprised to see her make the leap to arenas this time around.

Buzz itself will arrive on August 9 via 88rising, and was previewed earlier this month with the lead single Too Much Of A Good Thing (which you can stream below). In a press release, NIKI said of the new album’s genesis: “I went through an identity crisis. It took a lot of trial and error, and I just stumbled upon pieces of myself along the way. I named it Buzz because it feels like I'm on the precipice of something about to happen.”

It’s teased that Buzz “reverberates with the hard-earned wisdom of a young woman who charges dauntlessly towards her dreams – but can still spare a laugh if she stumbles”, and NIKI herself has cited the likes of Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon and Liz Phair as influences on its sound. “Joni Mitchell is my songwriting north star,” she added in her statement.
