Sydney producer Phondupe has released his long awaited debut album, and shared details of a very special launch for friends and fans.
Boundary-pushing Sydney artist PHONDUPE unveiled his long awaited debut album, ONYKIA, today. A nine-track sonic expedition through a multitude of textured and innovative electronica, the producer has infused analog electronica, brooding vocals and lush, intricate production to create a thoroughly impressive debut body of work.
Released via the producer’s own label AIR CON RECORDS, ONYKIA marks the end of a year-long journey for Phondupe as he released a whopping seven singles and three accompanying videos. A sonic accompaniment to his exploration of themes around mental health like anxiety, belief, and identity, ONYKIA is "bound by a concept referring to the hidden giants of the deep sea - an allegory Phondupe chose to explore the darker corners of the mind."
Now, to celebrate the release of ONYKIA, Phondupe is bringing the entire world he has created around his album to life for a very special launch party and installation on March 18. Set to be hosted at Motorik's Atelier Motorik, this event will feature an art installation by Em Dillion and Robby Bennett, the visual artists who have worked with Phonedupe throughout this project and are set to create a new large scale work custom-made for the launch which will live in the space until March 24. It will also have a range of selectors onthe night as well including Pat Santamaria (Motorik), Posture & WackJ (Velodrome), Diola (Behind The Front), and of course, Phondupe himself. Exclusive ONYKIA merch will also be available, as well as video screenings of a series of short films created by Phondupe and collaborators as part of ONYKIA
