London EDM artist Michael Bibi shared some bleak news with his fans overnight, revealing he’s been diagnosed with a CNS (central nervous system) lymphoma.

“Writing this post is a hard one,” the 32-year-old shared on Instagram – accompanied by a photo of himself from a hospital, giving the peace sign with a cannula in his hand – explaining that his condition is “a very rare cancer that [affects] the brain and spine”.

The US’ National Cancer Institute explains in more detail that a primary CNS lymphoma is “a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the lymph tissue of the brain and/or spinal cord”, and can be caused by “a weakened immune system”. There is no standard staging system for primary CNS lymphoma, it’s noted, and the disease “often recurs after it has been treated”.

In his post, Bibi went on to say that his cancer is “moving fast”, and as a result, he’ll be staying in hospital to “[start] treatment immediately”.

He continued: “Typing this message doesn’t quite seem real and I’m sorry for the bad news. I don’t know what lies ahead, I’m tired but I know I am strong and I won’t let this beat me. I will be back stronger for you all.”

Among those sharing well-wishes with Bibi are Skrillex, BICEP, Tiesto, Steve Aoki, Dom Dolla, Disclosure and Calussa. “I’m a survivor of stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma,” the lattermost artist wrote, “and today I can confidently say I am stronger than ever before and soon you will be too. Take it one step at a time, listen to your doctors, and ignore the noise around you. Keep your head up and you'll be back touring in no time. You have a whole community standing behind you, sending love and support.”

In another comment, fellow dance producer Ida Engberg wrote: “This is heartbreaking to read. Sending love and positive thoughts your way. Life is so precious and every day is a gift, I hope you will come out from this so much stronger. Thank you for the light and raw honesty. Stay strong.”

Bibi’s latest release was the single Different Side – a collaborative effort with KinAhau and Audio Bullys – which arrived back in March via Solid Grooves Records. In addition to a suite of standalone releases, he’s dropped five EPs over the past decade: Sweepstake and Feel My Freak in 2014, Clarity in 2015, Restoration in 2016 and Garden Of Groove in 2019.
