Meet The Australian Artist Who Is Competing With Harry Styles At The Grammys

6 February 2023 | 1:27 pm | Parry Tritsiniotis

He's brushing shoulders with the likes of Beyonce, Harry Styles & Kendrick Lamar as we speak.

George Nicholas is one of the best stories from this years Grammys.

Last year he learnt that he would join the likes of Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Adele on the red carpet.

He is nominated for the Best Engineereed Album (non-Classical) for working with New Zealand artist BAYNK's new album Adolescence. Also in the category is Harry Styles' Harry's House and Father John Misty's Chloe and the Next 20th Century.

Harry Styles took out the award today.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Nicholas spoke on never meeting his co-nominee Ryan Schwabe or the recording artist he worked with.

“One of the reasons I’ve come over here for the Grammys ... is that it would just be nice to celebrate what we’ve worked on together in person, rather than on WhatsApp threads or email chains.

“It will just be fun to go on the red carpet and do all of these things that are so far removed from my day-to-day job, which is to sit in a dark room by myself, with no shoes on, mixing records.”

Nicholas is already a legend in Australian music bagging multiple ARIA Award nods for projects including Genesis Owusu's Smiling With No Teeth and mixing Cosmo's Midnights Yesteryear.

Nicholas was initially a part of groundbreaking Sydney dance music trio Seekae. As the group wrapped up in 2016, he too found working with the project too tiring.

"The whole thing of getting on a plane or getting on a bus and turning up somewhere and worrying about if people are going to show up or if they’re going to like it. And to talk to lots of people ... I’m quite an introverted person and it’s not something that was appealing to me.”
