Recent performances have seen a worrying trend of fans assaulting artists by throwing various items on stage, but this latest incident involving Machine Gun Kelly involved one fan actually asking MGK (real name Colson Baker) to punch him in the face during a recent show.

Posting a video from his performance at Rock Werchter Festival set in Belgium on Saturday, July 1, the Emo Girl hitmaker showed the moment he spotted a fan in the audience holding up a sign that read “just came from Mexico 4 U 2 punch me in the face" alongside the caption, "making dreams come true".

“Why do you want me to punch you in the face so bad?” he asked the fan in the clip, who yelled off camera, “I love you!”

“I got rings on, dude. That shit’s gonna hurt,” Machine Gun Kelly responded, before contemplating out loud whether he should do it, adding, "Obviously if I punch you I'm gonna wanna punch the fuck out of you, I feel bad. You're in the front row singing all the words."

MGK added, "It’s a lose-lose for me, I don't know if I'm gonna do it, I'll consider it”.

He then seemed to then have a change of heart, as the clip cuts to the muso getting amongst the crowd while singing My Ex’s Best Friend where the fan is seen holding up the sign.

MGK then half-heartedly punched the fan in the face before walking off and yelling back to the audience, “I love you!”

The comparatively wholesome moment comes following a string of various items being thrown at singers while performing on stage lately, including pop music icon P!nk, who had a bag of a fan’s mother’s ashes thrown on stage while she was headlining Hyde Park’s British Summer Time festival.

American pop singer Bebe Rexha was also recently rushed off the stage after a phone was hurled at her face while performing on the Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York as she was singing her last song of the night for her Best F’n Night of My Life tour.

She was seen visibly falling to her knees and clutching her face – her team then helped her off the stage, and a scheduled meet and greet was cancelled while the singer received stitches.

Just days later, another US pop star, Ava Max, promised that one fan would “never [be] coming to a show again” after she was slapped on stage that the assailant scratched the inside of her eye.

Meanwhile, country music singer Kelsea Ballerini was also struck by what looked like a bracelet at a show last month. After being hit, she paused while performing her song, If You Go Down (I'm Goin' Down Too), before walking off stage.

After a short break, Ballerini returned to the stage to finish her set.

“Don't throw things. You know?” she told the crowd. “I just want shows of mine – every show, for every artist – but I'm in control of this one, and I just want it to be a safe space for everyone. We have little kids here. Can you help me do that tonight, please?”
