More Lojay More Lojay

Afrofusion sensation Lojay has announced his debut Australian dates today, visiting Melbourne’s Corner Hotel and Sydney’s The Metro in late September 2023.

The Nigerian singer formed his moniker as an abbreviation of the first letters of his real name – Lekan Osifeso Junior equals LO-J and discovered a genuine interest in music as an adolescent.

Last year, Lojay’s breakout single, Monalisa (featuring Sarz and Chris Brown), peaked at #8 on the Billboard Afrobeats Song Chart and, according to Shazam figures, is the most-played Afrobeats song searched on the app. In March 2023, Monalisa was certified Silver in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

Lojay has found Australian support in the form of triple j plays (mainly on its House Party segment) and in Nigerian artist Oxlade telling him to tour Australia. Oxlade toured down under in April 2023.

“Oxlade’s been telling me to tour Australia,” Lojay said via the On The Radar Radio TikTok. Oxlade told Lojay that “everyone’s spinning your song,” to which Lojay responded, “What?! In Australia? It’s crazy what the music is doing.”

Lojay will perform at the Metro Theatre in Sydney on Thursday, 28 September, and Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Friday, 29 September. You can find tickets via MJR Presents.

Lojay is touring Australia in support of his latest EP, Gangster Romantic, released earlier this year and includes the 28.4 million-streamed hit, Moto.

In an album review on Premium Times Nigeria, reviewer Solution Emmanuel concluded about Gangster Romantic, “Overall, Lojay kept the storyline in the ‘in-betweens’ by explaining the romantic experiences that took him to a dark place where he navigated to discover his villain side.

“His project widely explores various genres and utilises afro infusion very well, from the mid-tempos, Pop, R&B themes and the Amapiano reach.

“R&B, Pop, UK, and Afrobeats, which he has always claimed are his influences, were on full display as they all came into play aided by the best producers in the music industry.” You can experience Lojay live in Australia this September.
