Lil Yachty Slams Pitchfork After Negative Album Review

2 February 2023 | 1:36 pm | Parry Tritsiniotis

"U have a terrible taste in music. And your haircut sucks."

Fans have applauded Lil Yachty for the release of his genre-bending, psych-rock inspired new album Let's Start Here.

The album is a welcome turn for the artist, who has consistently pushed boundaries in the spheres of genre and as a public personality.

Due to his uniqueness, Lil Yachty has often been the punching bag of all things wrong about hip hop from the late 2010s to now. He's often blamed as the figurehead of mumble rap, a derogatory term often used to diss the new era of hip hop.

This criticism isn't valid, Yachty has faced criticism in the past purely for being different and unique, rather than for the quality of his music.

For arguably the first time in his career, this uniqueness is achieving broad praise, for his Tame Impala-esque new album.

When talking about the release of the record he said, “I really wanted to be taken seriously as an artist, not just some SoundCloud rapper or some mumble rapper.

“I wanted to be really taken serious because music is, like, everything to me. I respect all walks of music, not just rap and Hip Hop. Everything. So I think I wanted to make something to show the world just how great it was to me.”

Pitchfork on the other hand weren't fans of the record, giving it a 6.0/10.

"Despite its intriguing concept, Lil Yachty’s voyage into soul and psych-rock runs aground," the reviewer wrote.

In response to the review, Yachty Tweeted, "Lol pitchfork is so washed up."

He then turned his attention to the author of the review saying, “I respect all opinion.. @al_Peeair but you have a terrible taste in music. And your haircut sucks.”
