Norwegian alt-pop artist and songwriter girl in red (real name Marie Ulven Ringheim) was due to perform at Splendour In The Grass this July, but like some of her peers on the line-up (The Last Dinner Party, Baby Gravy and Lizzy McAlpine), the cancellation wasn’t going to stop her returning to Australia.

Girl in red will play some of her biggest shows to date in venues across the country for her Doing It Again Asia/Oceania tour in support of her latest album, I’M DOING IT AGAIN, BABY!

The tour begins at Perth’s Centenary on Thursday, 11 July, followed by Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Sunday, 14 July, Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena on Wednesday, 17 July, and Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Sunday, 21 July. She ends the Oceania part of the tour at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Tuesday, 23 July.

Tour organisers Secret Sounds are also teasing an event to be announced for Adelaide—sign up to the mailing list to receive the information when it lands.

Pre-sale tickets will be available from 10 am local time on Friday, 26 April, with the general sale opening on Monday, 29 April, at 10 am local time. You can find tickets via the Secret Sounds website.

I’M DOING IT AGAIN, BABY! finds girl in red in a “more ambitious, and more exciting, and more idea-driven” songwriting space, with the singer commenting in a press release: “The past five years have been so insane, and that I’ve been given this opportunity is insane.

“But I think what’s really hitting me now is that I need to pursue music fully, and that’s something I want to do with this record. I just want to go all in on girl in red in 2024. I’m at a point where I’m willing to fly.”

On what punters can expect from the tour, girl in red told The Music in a recent cover story interview:

I’m definitely leaning into cringe with the live stuff. I’m planning on doing all this stuff that's probably going to make people go, ‘What the fuck? That was horrible!’ But it's all tongue in cheek.

Everything I do [onstage], I do because I think it's cool and fun. I just want to challenge myself and find out what kind of performer I can be. I’ve always just been ‘the guitar girl’, jumping up and down all over the place – and I’ve loved that, but I’m really interested in seeing what else can I do.
