Genesis Owusu will be moulding his genre-bending funk and punk laden beats with strings in a special two-night-only event with Red Bull Symphonic

The Ghanaian-Australian artist will join forces with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra at Fortitude Valley Music Hall on March 3rd and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House on March 23rd to bring two once-in-a-lifetime shows.

Red Bull Symphonic first joined the two worlds of music together in June 2022, debuting a one-night-only, intimate performance with Goodna rapper Lisi and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra from Brisbane’s Princess Theatre. From there, it was clear that joining the two ends of the musical spectrum together created a magic that was so unique that it had to be continued.

This time, with the help of both the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, award-winning composer and arranger Alex Turley (Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, Omega Ensemble, Electric Fields, NGAIIRE) will create a show that perfectly blends the talents of both orchestra's and Owusu.

Genesis Owusu has become a household name over the past two years, with his debut album Smiling With No Teeth receiving critical acclaim. With the release of his debut, he secured triple j’s Album of the Year and x4 ARIA award titles, including Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop Release, Best Independent Release and Best Cover Art. He has toured extensively around Australia in 2021 and 2022 with his Goon Club and The Black Dog Band and has travelled overseas to play at Lollapalooza Festival, Osheaga Festival, This Ain’t No Picnic Festival, Austin City Limits and Primavera sound.

Genesis Owusu says of Red Bull Symphonic “If you’ve seen me perform live, you know I love the drama. Bringing out the grandeur in every element. What’s grander and more theatrical than a punk-funk-rap enigma backed by a 40-piece orchestra? We getting real thespian out here.”
