Watch Flume Pay Tribute To SOPHIE On Stage In Brisbane

17 November 2022 | 1:13 pm | Parry Tritsiniotis

"I got to the venue today and I walked up passed the dressing rooms and I got triggered. SOPHIE is no longer with us and we had some really great times."

Last night, Flume paid tribute to the late great, pop and electronic music revolutionary SOPHIE.

Flume last toured Australia in 2016 alongside SOPHIE and Vince Staples. On stage last night in Brisbane he reflected on the tour and SOPHIE being there alongside him.

He said that last time he toured he did it with his, "good friend SOPHIE and I got to the venue today and I walked up passed the dressing rooms and I got triggered.

"SOPHIE is no longer with us and we had some really great times in Aus and we had some good chats.

"I just want to dedicate this track to SOPHIE. I don't know if you know who SOPHIE is but SOPHIE is one of the motherfucking greats. One of the best to ever do it."

Earlier this year SOPHIE was immortalised with an exoplanet being named after her.

The International Astronomical Union named the astroid, Sophiexeon. The asteroid was originally named RE1 and discovered by Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory in the Czech Republic.

The news was made public in February via an announcement from the IAU, which stated, "SOPHIE was known as an electronic music pioneer whose futuristic style changed the landscape of pop music in the early 21st century,”

"SOPHIE has influenced so many of us, and now she will forever be part of the cosmos,” petition starter Christian Arroyo wrote.

Flume is currently on tour across Australia in support of his most recent album Palaces. The tour kicked off at Perth's Red Hill Auditorium on the 11th of November, followed by Brisbane's Riverstage on the 16th.

He now heads to Sydney's The Dome on the 18th, Melbourne's John Cain Arena on the 24th, The Adelaide Entertainment Centre on the 30th, before closing the tour at the Regatta Grounds in Hobart on the 2nd of December.
