Liquor And Gaming and the police have a new rule for anyone attending Splendour In The Grass.

Anyone attending the festival who is aged under 18 will have to be accompanied by an adult due to liquor licensing laws changing for the event.

"We appreciate that this is not ideal, we are not happy about this late change however we must adhere to these new conditions imposed on us by the Police and Liquor and Gaming," a notice by ticketing company Moshtix said.

"Police will be present at the event, roaming throughout the crowd checking that underage minors are with a responsible adult."

A young fan from Lennox Head, Abbey Davies spoke to The ABC saying her parents can't afford to purchase another expensive ticket.

"There were about five of us going; four of us had three-day tickets and they're all in the same boat, no parents going.

"A couple of them just want to go anyway and hope no-one gets fined.

"I've never been to a concert or a festival before, so I was really excited, and I was really looking forward to it."

One fan, Jackson Langford on Twitter extended Davies' point, stating, "fining underage music fans, who likely haven't had the chance to attend a major music festival in three years (if ever), for an arbitrary reason put in place with such little notice so there isn't even time to prepare... outstanding."

Many fans have commented frustratingly on the announcement post on Splendour's announcement of the Police rule change.

"NSW police need to get a grip," one commenter said, while another said, "What a joke. Nanny state strikes again. More rules doesn’t create outcomes; respect does. Wish our authorities could spend a year in Spain, Italy or Portugal and understand how positive association with the joys in life are beneficial to society, the community, and it’s culture."

Important announcement regarding under 18's at Splendour.
