Donald Glover (who we better know as Childish Gambino) has officially transformed into 21 Savage in the trailer of the upcoming film American Dream: The 21 Savage Story.

The trailer has been posted on 21 Savage’s YouTube account, in which Donald Glover and Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin portray the British-American rapper. The artist (real name Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) also plays himself in the film.

Our first look at the film shows McLaughlin and Glover depicting 21 Savage at different stages of his life, with a young version of the musician witnessing someone being detained before the trailer flashes forward, showing Glover rapping, in immigration court, and later, beside his seeming partner and children.

21 Savage shared a promotional image for the film on Instagram, with the rapper alongside Donald Glover and Caleb McLaughlin and a teaser that notes the film is “coming soon”. The poster also features a link to, but the link is inactive at the time of writing.

The film is set to premiere in July 2024. In addition to the trailer you can watch below, the “Music Inspired by the Film” soundtrack lands this Friday, 12 January.

In November, 21 Savage and collaborator Drake missed out on the ARIA Award for Most Popular International Artist, which was always going to Taylor Swift in 2023. The pair were nominated for their collaborative album Her Loss.

Her Loss arrived after the 21 Savage and Metro Boomin collaborative release, Savage Mode II, which Willaris K called one of his favourite albums of 2020 and cited No Opp Left Behind as the best song.

In other recent 21 Savage news, the rapper is set to feature on Usher’s first album in eight years.

Coming Home will land on Sunday, 11 February 2024, via Mega/Gamma Records. The album will feature the previously released singles Boyfriend and Good Good featuring 21 Savage and Summer Walker.

“We’ve put a lot of thought and creativity into this new album to tell a story that is open to interpretation and that will connect with people in different ways,” Usher commented in a press release (via HipHopDX).

“I know this has been a long time coming for my fans, and what I’ll say is that all good things come to those who wait. I hope you enjoy it once you hear it.”
