Prolific DJ and producer dj pgz has announced his debut EP, The Dance/Hypnotic Suburbs will release on the 15th of July via Butter Sessions.

dj pgz utilises the best and hardest sounds from underground club music across the world, fusing together hard techno with dark, sparse and bass heavy percussion patterns. His sets identifying feature is one that explores the contemporary work of First nations and other diverse producers in dance music.

The artist has already established a long slew of community work, radio presenting at Triple R, filmmaking for Young Mob Questioning Treaty, drumming for bands as well as co-curating BLK ICE event series. He recently performed as a part of Umami’s debut Boiler Room. Now he turns to the release of his double track EP.

“I want folks to feel like this music is something familiar and new at the same time. I want them to enjoy it, but also if they don't have an enjoyable experience, that's ok too. At the centre of it all, I want to create something that has a groove and makes folks really keen to move around,” he stated on the project's ethos.

The EP opens with The Dance, a concoction of dark rolling bass and percussion that encapsulates the feeling of dancefloors and the people, locations and feelings you get along the way.

Following The Dance is Hypnotic Suburbs, a collaboration with local rapper Teether. The duo enter the world of high energy drum and bass, with the track featuring high pitched synth melodies and rubbery, liquid bass lines.

“Features with people in my community is what making music is all about. I'm always interested in creating something together, and if folks I want to collaborate with enjoy what I do, then that's better than the release to me.

"When I took this joint to Corey it was still half an idea and he helped me with getting this track over the line instrumentally with arrangement, sounds, mix and energy. Corey was fresh to collaborate with, he taught me some secret techniques too which I'll hope to pull out for future releases”
