Venue was a hub for deep and tech house

Brisbane's iconic underground dance music venue Barsoma has announced this evening that it will close mid-April.

In a statement the venue, who were often considered the home of Brisbane's underground dance scene from 2007-2011, said that owners Nick Braban and Jodie Hamilton “have decided to move onto new projects”.

Braban said, “We are so very happy to have helped the local scene in some way, and had a great time doing it. We would just like to thank our loyal supporters for coming and sharing the last five years with us.”

In those years the venue became Brisbane's home of deep and tech house, but also hosted drum'n'bass, techno, dubstep, prog, psy, breaks and other genres that stuggled to find a home.

The venue will close Monday 15 April after five weeks of shows from the likes of Subtrakt, Logic, Auditree, Elements, Therapy, Delight and Underground Resistance. Full details of these shows will be announced in the coming week.

The owners said that the venue will reopen as, “Something special and new, consistent with the offering at the bottom strip of the valley. Big things are to come for the venue, on which more detail will be released over the next week.”
