The Australian Liquor Awards have announced the finalists and winners for their on-premises nominees, with one category delivering interesting results.

The ALIA awards are a gala industry event that attracts over 600 members of the liqour and hospitality each year. The nominations are received from ALIA's voting website with the nominees with the highest votes become finalists who are then judged by a selected panel of over 50 industry experts.

The best live music venue category featured venues:

Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Frankie’s Pizza, Sydney
Hotel Esplanade, Melbourne
Howler, Melbourne
Marlborough Hotel, Sydney
Memphis Slim’s House of Blues, Adelaide
Sandstone Point Hotel, Queensland
Suzie Wong’s Good Time Bar, Brisbane
The Lansdowne Hotel, Sydney
The Lord Gladstone, Sydney

The winner of the category was the soon to close Sydney's Frankie's Pizza. While all of these venues are great, we think that a few amazing venues were missed. In Sydney the likes of the Oxford Art Factory, The Duke Hotel, The Enmore Theatre and Oxford Underground stick out as big exclusions. In Melbourne The Forum, The Palais and Miscellania have been amazing, in Brisbane The Fortitude Music Hall, The Triffid and The Zoo also prove as big contenders.

“ALIA provides such a brilliant platform for the trade to honour the performers in our industry. The voting process takes its cues from the liquor industry at every turn, so a win at ALIA is truly an acknowledgement of support in the industry, be it for brands, companies or individuals," says Deborag Jackon, editor of the National Liquor News magazine.
