More Allday More Allday

Allday has unveiled the first details of his upcoming fifth album, The Necklace, alongside a vibey new single titled Access.

The Necklace is due to arrive on August 2 via Dew Process and Universal, following up on his 2021 album Drinking With My Smoking Friends and his 2022 EP Excuse Me. Pre-orders for the album are available now – head here to secure yours.

The album will feature a total of 15 tracks, including collaborations with Cub Sport (on the song Miss You Still), Kye (One For Me), YNG Martyr (One Track Minded) and Vetta Borne (Just A Moment). It also reunites Allday with producer Simon Lam, with whom he’s worked frequently since 2019’s Starry Night Over The Phone album.

In a press release, The Necklace is described as “a record built on a foundation of self-realisations, growth and self-work”, reflecting a period in which the rapper “needed to get his personal and artistic mind right”.

It’s explained further: “The end of his last album cycle left Allday yearning for a scene change; one where he could switch off from music and find fulfilment elsewhere. He found this away from Australia, in Italy, where he spent some months working on an olive farm; detached from the world he knew as normal, instead focusing on labouring and becoming familiar with the unknown.”

Soon thereafter, it’s said, Allday rekindled his love for rap music – following a brief detour into pop and indie-rock stylings – and subsequently “fell back in love with the fun side of music itself”.

Access is our first proper taste of the record, released today (February 22) alongside a music video directed by Harry Deadman and filmed in New York City. Its concept is said to have formed from the lyric, “You ain’t nothing I seen before,” focussing on “the idea that sometimes people don’t turn out to be the person you first thought they were”.
