A$AP TyY Drops New EP, Teams Up With Ksubi For Moto-Inspired Capsule Collection

A$AP Mob member A$AP TyY has joined forces with global denim and streetwear brand Ksubi for a limited-edition, moto-inspired capsule collection.

Bringing together the realms of fashion, music and motorsports, the eclectic collection launches in line with the release of TyY’s debut EP, 1840 LEX and has been brought to life with a creative project series, centred around the music video for A$AP TyY, s new track Purge.

Hailing from Harlem, A$AP TyY first started making music as a teenager, and after meeting A$AP Rocky and A$AP Yams, he became a member of the New York hip-hop collective, A$AP Mob.

A$AP Mob were early champions of Ksubi and led styles of denim and streetwear fashion that quickly became adopted and embraced by fans.

Considered a figure amongst the bike life subculture of New York, it became clear that A$AP TyY’s daring spirit in the world of motorsports aligned with Ksubi’s own rebellious attitude, which soon lead to TyY starring in the launch of Ksubi’s GOLD campaign in 2021 and spurring an ongoing relationship between the pair that's culminated in the latest collection.

The nine-piece collection encompasses denim, moto-jerseys, a t-shirt, hoodie and accessories, with the collateral damage that occurs to garments whilst maintaining and riding bikes being a central theme throughout the hip-hop star's designs.

A$AP TyY said of the fashion collaboration, “I had the idea of doing moto style denim and jersey for a while. If you know your denim you know KSUBI. There’s no denying how influential Ksubi has been on hip-hop culture, and its ties to A$AP, so it only made sense to bring this collection to life with the help of both of our teams."

Hero items include two racing jersey designs with co-branded KSUBI & A$AP custom artworks that take inspiration from sponsor logos on professional moto rider jerseys. Custom faded wash techniques on iconic slim-fit Ksubi denim, plus the shirt and hoodie, give the collection a lived in feel, with distressing across the jersey-fabric pieces providing a nod to natural wear and tear.

The denim has also been given a moto-style treatment with oil stain effects, ‘gravel splatter’ artwork on the back of the garments, and repair style embroidery on the crotch to give the lived-in feeling of motorsport wares.

Craig King, CEO of Ksubi said of joining forces with the rap star, “We were introduced to A$AP TyY and his insane quad bike skills when he helped us launch our jewellery line in 2021. The opportunity to partner again around his EP launch gave us the chance to have a more “moto” focused offer. We collaborated every step of the way to create a collection that truly embodies the spirit of TyY on and off the bike."

After collaborating on tracks with artists such as A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti and Lil Yachty, A$AP TyY release his own EP in June 2023, featuring a distinctive style of music that fuses hip-hop, trap and electronic music.

With TyY heavily involved in the conception and design of the capsule collection, the spirit of collaboration extended into the supporting content creation for the EP, with Ksubi and TyY partnering on the creative direction for the music video of TyY’s EP track Purge. Directed by AkinFilms and featuring members of the A$AP Mob, the video features A$AP TyY riding through the streets of New York City, dressed in the collection designs.
