TikTok has shared it’s annual list of the social video app’s most popular trends, including the ten songs that Australian and New Zealand creators sampled the most across 2023.

As reported by Mumbrella, the list is topped by two sped-up versions of songs – Collide by Justine Skye and Cupid by FIFTY FIFTY – with another two coming in at #5 and #8: Her Way by PARTYNEXTDOOR and girls like me don’t cry by thuy, respectively. In between those latter two, the #3 spot was taken out by Dave and Central Cee’s megahit Sprinter, followed by Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2 by PinkPantheress and Ice Spice.

Summer Walker and NO1-NOAH took the #6 spot with their joint single White Tee, and RussNASTY took #7. Rounding out the list, SZA’s Travis Scott-assisted Open Arms came in as the ninth most popular song among Australian TikTokers, narrowly beating out Makeba by Jain.

In a press statement, Lee Hunter – TikTok’s general manager for the Australian and New Zealand market – commended the creators that defined the platform in 2023. “We have been so inspired by the incredible creators who are the beating heart of TikTok, and this is an opportunity to celebrate those who have made their mark this year,” he said, giving “a massive thank you to our community who show up every day as their true authentic selves and who made 2023 one for the history books”.

It’s been a huge month for TikTok in Australia – at the start of December, it was revealed that Ocean Alley’s 2018 hit Confidence made it back into the Top 20 of the ARIA Singles Chart, all thanks to its boom in usage on TikTok. Just a few days later, TikTok announced a partnership with Ticketmaster to allow Aussie artists to sell tickets directly on the app.

Just last week, too, Peach PRC snagged the Music Act Of The Year gong at the 2023 TikTok Australia Awards.
