Up Close and Personal with Set Mo, Klue and Spoonty

24 February 2014 | 10:14 pm | Tony Kingston

Up Close and Personal is a new Sunday party, featuring a great selection of emerging DJs and producers.

Up Close and Personal is a new Sunday party about to make its way to Sydney, one which primarily focuses on the talent of up and coming DJs and producers in an intimate and relaxed environment.

The concept will feature a line up of artists who were specifically chosen to play in particular time slots throughout the event. The result? Attendees of the 100 odd capacity venue Ching-a-Lings (located in the heart of the Sydney CBD) will be able to hear chilled electronic sounds throughout the late afternoon of March 23, followed by groovy house music in the evening until close.

Headlining the debut will be Sydney house production duo SET MO, who were recently given the responsibility of being the main support for AEROPLANE on New Years Eve. Their incredibly catchy track 'Still Waters' has recieved massive love on the web and has been added to high rotation on Triple J Unearthed, only a month after its official release.

At the Defected In The House party in Sydney last month, SET MO proved their potential by performing two excellent sets in support of the legendary MK. Since then they've released a new remix of THIEF's track 'Closer' which has received a lot of positive feedback lately, making its way onto many music blog sites in Australia and the rest of the world.

Joining them on the bill will be TRUE VIBENATION beats maker KLUE, who will be playing a combined live/DJ set. His remix of SLEEPMAKESWAVES' 'To You They Are Birds, To Me They Are Voices In The Forest' was described by Triple J Unearthed's music director Dave Ruby Howe as a "hyperactive and inventive take on a great post rock band".

Recently KLUE also released a very tidy remix of 'Caress Your Soul' by STICKY FINGERS, which caught the attention of the band so much that it landed him a support slot for their upcoming Sydney show at Metro Theatre.

Last but certainly not least, Up Close and Personal will see a live performance from one of our 'Artists To Watch In 2014', SPOONTY. It appears as though we're not the only ones who are fans of him, as he was ranked at number 48 in FBi Radio's most played artists of 2013.

When asked by The Orange Press to tell people in his own words what his sound is, SPOONTY sums it up perfectly: "I like to create lo-fi, ambient, beat driven, sample-based music which I’d describe as dreamy and melancholy but with whimsical undertones". Supporting on the night will be house and disco tune selectors ANDY MCQUEEN and JANSEN.
