Ahead of his livestream EP launch, James Pepper takes us through his brand new Gallery Recordings debut EP, 'For All My Wrongs'.
After the release of a new single just last month in the form of soulful house track, 'For All My Wrongs', Sydney's JAMES PEPPER returns with a brand new EP of the same name. Doubling as the debut release for new label Gallery Recordings, For All My Wrongs is a total masterclass from Pepper, effortlessly infusing so many different influences into a stellar three-track record and a tasty lounge remix courtesy of Cassettes For Kids.
Having kicked off the year in style, 2020 was shaping to be Pepper's biggest yet with a set at Days Like This already under his belt and both a tour and a support slot with none other than Peggy Gou on the cards. Unfortunately however, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, this wasn't to be. But it's not all bad news! Pepper fans can still get their live fix, only from their comfort of their own homes instead.
James Pepper will be streaming a live set online this evening to launch his latest release, and will be joined by Litmus. Before this online EP launch kicks off this afternoon at 5:30pm AEDT, we've got an exclusive run through of the EP from the man himself. Check it all out below to get familiar with the tracks, and head to James Pepper's Facebook page to watch the livestream!

For All My Wrongs
For All My Wrongs was written about 2 years ago actually. It just sat in my project files as incomplete until one day I decided to pick it up, rework it and finally finish it. It is now one of the tracks I am most proud of to date. As soon the keys were matched with the vocals I was ecstatic, building a track with a solid foundation of elements is super easy to work with.
All Star in my head was one I was always intending for the DJs. Over the many times I have played it out its super easy, and always gets the job done. Allowing the rolling bass line to open up and allow the acidic peaks to shine throw has allowed All Star to become an absolute steam-train. You can't control funk!
Stampede (Of the Elephants)
The description of 'Stampede' comes within the name. A stampede of huge synths opened right up allows for a groovy bass-line to as well. With a break (I discovered in a Jungle sample pack) constantly slamming to create an aggressive vibe on the B1. Similar to the other tracks on the EP, Stampede outlines that a house track doesn’t need thousands of elements, when the melodic synths, bass-line, (vocals), and drums are spot on, the track will finish itself. I was always keen on having a remix to go with the For All My Wrongs EP.
All Star (Cassettes For Kids Remix)
Seeing as it is my debut EP, it would be most fitting to have a man that has helped me drastically since we first met. Cassettes for Kids has done a fine job with All Star as he does consistently with all of his works. In typical Cassettes For Kids fashion, Zak has nailed the rework - adding his harmonic chord stabs and crunchy drum lines to give All Star everything it hadn’t been.
For All My Wrongs is out now via Gallery Recordings.
