Slim Set share their top five favourite hip-hop artists ahead of RAP Attack

25 January 2017 | 5:59 pm | Hannah Galvin

Sydney duo Slim Set are playing RAP Attack at the Hudson Ballroom this Friday night. We find out their top five Hip Hop tracks ahead of the show!

Sydney duo SLIM SET place their passion of culture in their songwriting material in a way that could only be described as their own.

Made up of ATRO and DEV, the boys gel seamlessly together, creating a space for contemporary hip-hop within their own Sydney jacket, and sometimes teeing up with fellow local rapper, Kimchi Princi; a fellow up and coming artist who featured on their debut EP, Teething, that they released independently in late December, 2016.

A fist full of energy, Slim Set are taking their talent to the stage this Friday, 27th January for RAP Attack. Curated by boss DJ Yemisul, the lineup also consists of a live performance by Triple One, as well as DJ sets from Shantan Wantan IchibanEbony BoaduSwiss Dank and R.Soze, and will take place at Sydney's Hudson Ballroom.

Geeing you up for what lies ahead, Slim Set have thrown together a list of tunes from their top five favourite hip-hop acts. Take it away boys!

"Gotta start with Ratking. Wiki just that new kind of MC born of New York but flow from another world. Plus that Sporting Life production is always off its head."

"Straight up obsessed with YGG at the mo. Hardest grime act out now. We crush a mix or two of theirs daily. Strally on that intellectual bars at 140, Saint is untrippable and PK’s flow is just too skippy."

"Reviving that like 90s G-funk sound but with this like bittersweet outlook and a next level hook writing ability."

"I think Tink is the same age as us but infinitely better. Still waiting on her first album Think Tink, delayed or shelved because Timbaland overhyped her by saying Aaliyah came to him in a dream and told him Tink was ‘the one.’ Singing or bars Tink is hard. She will always be top 5."

Young Thug

"I don't even need to justify this - Atro has been quoted saying 'A Slime Season a day keeps the doctor cunt away.' If Wiki is a new breed of MC, Thug is a prophet and we are the blind."
