Sydney nightclub ivy has unveiled epic upgrades to its sound system, pouring new investment into the d&b Audiotechnik system to ensure extra beats pumping into punters on the dancefloor.

Regarding what the upgrades entail, hospitality group and ivy owners Merivale have invested $500,000 into the already-impressive sound system, working closely with the German loudspeaker and amplifier manufacturer, d&b Audiotechnik.

According to a press release, the upgrades will stretch to provide coverage throughout the entire ivy space. Merivale’s Head of Music and Nightlife, Nick van Tiel, detailed the sound system upgrades (which were made in consultation with Merivale CEO Justin Hemmes):

“The additional system components, as well as the reconfiguration, allow us much better control of audio within the space, delivering more clarity, balance, presence, and distribution of energy across the room - without affecting our noise emissions,” van Tiel said.

“Feedback from DJs, guests and our promoter partners has been amazing, and we are super excited about this timely evolution of the space and offering at ivy.”

Ivy’s sound system upgrade follows the launch of the nightclub’s new residency program, Above. The press release notes Above’s “huge, lofted LED lighting installations”, as well as “performers above the dancefloor, captivating AV encounters, and now a world-class sound system.”

Above arrived as a collaboration between promoters Finely Tuned and One Hit.

Finely Tuned founder Simon Beckingham said about the upgrade reveal, “Good sound is what you can hear; great sound is a full-body sensory experience. Being able to move freely throughout the venue and feel as immersed at the bar as one does in the centre of the dance floor means guests are always connected and in sync with the energy of the room.

“More and more, showcasing world-class artists requires a world-class system - and Australia's best nightclub has just gotten that much better for it.”

For those interested in the technical details about the upgrades at ivy, here they are (per a Merivale spokesperson):

-        d&b Audiotechnik Speaker System consisting of a V Series line array and point source on the main dance floor, A Series augmented array and V point source as outfill into our VIP booths, all supported by V-Subs and B22 subs.

-        A system powered by D80 and D40 amplifiers and signal distribution via Q-Sys. An Allen & Heath dLive console for live events is in use.
