Sydney DIY indie-pop artist, LORA has officially dropped helong-awaited sophomore EP titled walls alongside new single house after teasing fans with previous singles, fencedrive and string.

Produced and written in London with longtime collaborator Joe Mason, walls delves into the vulnerable feelings that surround letting your guard down when falling in love.

Speaking on the new body of work, LORA explained; "walls encompasses every fear or thought I've had over the last year in relation to vulnerability and my overflowing emotions which I’ve always tried to hide."

"walls has a recurring theme of finding home within yourself and allowing others to be welcomed into that home. I can be known to have my walls up to protect myself but as I've come to learn, sometimes it's better to let them down if it's for yourself or even the right person."

She added, "This ep is a journey of accepting those feelings and trusting yourself enough to be vulnerable."

Expanding on the focus track, house, LORA said, ‘It’s about coming to terms with who you are. house is inspired by the saying, a house is not a home."

"It's about how I'm still learning how to accept myself but I know I'm not perfect and I'm ok with that. The old run-down house is used as a metaphor to symbolise the way I view myself and by calling it my home I've acknowledged that this is who I am and I accept that and I love it."

"This was written in London with Joe Mason. This track has a sombre but contentful tone.''

To celebrate the release of her latest Ep walls, we sat down with LORA to find out what you need to know about the rising Sydney songstress.

Congrats on the EP! How are you feeling about it being released into the world?

Thank you! It’s been a real mix of fear and excitement. It’s always scary putting new music out, but I really really love these tracks and i’m so proud of them. It’s a really special feeling to be proud of what you’ve made.

Are there any tracks that are particularly special to you on this walls?

Honestly every song on this EP. I think this is the most vulnerable I’ve been in my music. If I had to pick one, I’d say ‘string’. It’s about having your walls up, and feeling like it’s better to keep them high for the sake of people around you.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences and how have they impacted your own sound and style?

Phoebe Bridgers, Big Thief and Dijon. I think they are all such incredible musicians, and I definitely pull a lot of inspiration from all 3.

If your music was a flavour, what would it taste like?

Popping Candy. It’s sweet and fun with crunchy drums and interesting production, and listening to it feels like popping candy to me.

What’s been the biggest moment in your career so far?

It would have to be hearing my brand new song ‘drive’ play on TV for the first time… on Better Homes and Gardens. Absolutely unbeatable moment in my life. :’)

What's the most unusual or unexpected source of inspiration you've drawn from when writing a song?

I’d say writing a song about Jack Sparrow after watching Pirates of the Caribbean. Super niche, but it’s turned out to be a bit of a crowd favourite at my gigs which is fun.

Can you share a hilarious or cringe-worthy moment from your early days as an artist?

Oh god… The very first time I performed, I completely blanked on the lyrics to my song ‘lost’ which I had just released. Pains me to think about!

What are the top three tracks or artists you’re vibing on rn?

Sunshine Baby by The Japanese House. Obsessed with the vibe of this track.

Heavy Water by Feeble Little Horses, the whole album is so so sick.

Time Ahead by moonboy. This song has been stuck in my head since it came out.

What’s something that fans not might know about you?

I make coffee for money!

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Frank by Amy Winehouse. I love the album so much. I don't even know if I can describe why but I love it. She’s just an incredible artist.

What else is in the works for you in 2023?

Working on more and more music and some live shows! I’m supporting Hallie very soon in Sydney and Brisbane and I can't wait!!
